It started with a Dream
In 2018, I was sitting in another gardening/farming class, thinking I’m ready to start a market garden…..until I started listening to someone talk about starting a community garden. Something nudged me. I started to think about what if I could start a community garden and maybe make a difference for my community. I started researching community gardens and oh my goodness, there were so many different kinds of gardens; my head was spinning. As I researched, I discovered Trinity Community Gardens, Inc. and decided to attend their workshop, “Growing to Feed the Many”. After the workshop, I was inspired by their years of dedication towards feeding the hungry; so I became a Trinity Garden volunteer and one year later….Canyon Springs Garden Outreach was born. Our first growing season started in 2019. It was a challenging season; but with a handful of volunteers, full of the Spirit, we established the first garden section, consisting of 48 boxes and many other farming supplies, donated by Trinity Community Gardens. We called our garden, “ the Wild Child of our Mother Garden, Trinity Community Garden”. Honestly, every year has been challenging and I’m so glad we captured some of our second year season on video. It serves as a reminder, that amidst the tears and yes sometimes frustration, hard work, longer than expected hours spent, and thinking it is just not possible; I learned it is possible through perseverance, patience, and prayer. As I look back at the last six growing seasons, I realize how God has blessed me and other garden volunteers, with the love of serving one another and our community. It is all about being in community, learning and growing together, sharing our stories, the harvest of food for our bodies, flowers for our souls, and our hope and prayers for one another. I am ready and full of hope for the what’s next. “… but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
